Snow and Pumpkins

Snow and pumpkins. Two things that (in my book) should not go together! We had record high temps last Monday and on Tuesday night it was SNOWING! I took this picture before bed on Tuesday.

This picture was taken at 6 the next morning. Nixon loved the snow!! So glad for that. He trumps around in it like no big deal!

We carved pumpkins on Wednesday night...I know, we're a little late but better late than never, right?

Bagsy was so interested. It was kind of annoying!

The finished product. Keaton's is a free-hand cyclops, and mine was a template I found online. I think they both turned out pretty good!

I think he was trying to talk Bagheera into staying around for another picture.

Awwww. And yes, for those wondering, they're getting along just fine. They are by no means cuddling with each other or leaving one another alone, but they aren't avoiding each other all the time! Nixon gets the occasional slap on the head from his brother, but he doesn't fight back.

Cooking with Keats

That should be a new blog series, eh?

We had some people over two weekends ago and Keats made bacon-wrapped scallops, ribs, and scalloped hasselback potatoes (recipe found here).

All of the food was delicious and when I took leftovers to work, everyone was very jealous!

We also went to the Jimmy Buffett concert in Denver and sat waaaaay up in the boonies.

Thank goodness I had my awesome camera! It was like sitting front row!

Where is Fall?

We have been in search for some good fall colors around here. This is as close as we came about two weeks ago.

We headed to Lyons (7 miles from home) in search of the pretty red, orange, yellow, etc. leaves. Everything was still pretty green, but I was still satisfied with the scenery!

We found this neat little area and kind of hiked around (in my flip flops, scarf, sweater, and capris. I was a confused dresser that day!)

"We're just going to look..."

The above statement was exactly what Keats said as we walked into the Longmont Humane Society last Saturday. (We only stopped because we were flagged into the parking lot by a man in a yellow dog costume!)

We walked around the humane society (which is SO nice and clean) and looked at all of the dogs, cats, birds, rabbits, etc. and when we came to one pen, we couldn't stop looking and saying "Awww!"

We decided to take this sweet little guy outside to play with him "just to see if we liked him." (Keats made it sound that easy!)

Well, as you can see, we both became quite attached to "Dylan" the pomeranian mix who had come to the shelter as a stray. We visited him twice before we knew we wanted to make him part of our family.

Meet our newest little man, Nixon. (We changed his name. I can't do human names for animals...)

Eeeeeek! ISN'T HE JUST SO CUTE?!

We felt so good about adopting him and getting him out of this sad, sad pen! (Even though they really are very nice compared to lots of places.)

We brought him home tonight and Bagheera is adjusting surprisingly well. Nixon was neutered yesterday (which was included in our adoption fee, along with microchipping), so he is a big under the weather and sleeping right next to us on the couch right now. He is the cutest!

Um...

We have a cat bed, three million fuzzy cat blankets (okay, four), two couches, AND a giant cat mansion and this is where you choose to lay Bagheera?! I don't know why I'm so surprised, considering he lays on our shoes all the time...but as you can see, he was laying right in the middle of the three rooms so neither of us could miss him.

FYI: I don't wear those shoes often....I've had them since last February and I wore them to the Buffs game a couple of weeks ago for the first time to show my black and gold pride. :)

I Think We Have a Problem!

Well, I hate to say it but I think I'm addicted to "couponing" now...

I went to Target last night and got half of my stuff then and we both went this afternoon and got the rest of our haul. It's pretty exciting when you can get the prices super low like we did but it does take a little time...mostly because I'm not fully organized with everything yet!

I got most of my coupons from various websites (mostly found trough the KCL website I mentioned in the last post) and the others are from the Sunday newspaper.

A majority of our coupons were buy one, get one free. We got to use those on the Suave shampoo/conditioner (3.00 each), the Tresemme shampoo/conditioner (5.50 each), both sets of Tresemme styling products (4.44-4.99 each), and the Vaseline lotions (4.99 each).

I took this picture to show that the lotions and body wash came with a smaller size attached so it was pretty much like buy one, get two free. :) Side note: I absolutely cannot believe how dry it is here in Colorado. Keats has always been one to put on lotion after the shower and I always gave him a hard time about it but now I understand why! I've already lost count of how many bloody noses I've gotten since I've been here! (If you know me, you know how easily I get them. I step in the shower..BOOM, bloody nose. I put on a shirt, BANG, bloody nose. Sick.)

I got all four Covergirl blushes for free (3.74 each), the four bags of cat treats for free (99c each), the gum for free, the six First Aid To Go kits for 20 cents each (97c each), the Tide single loads for 30 cents each (97c each - not that great of a deal considering the price of a normal sized detergent), the Carefree items were 49 cents each (99c each), the seven travel sized toothpaste items were free (97c each), the Olay wipes were free (5.99), the Nivea chapsticks were 2/$4 at Walgreens so I used 2 $3.00 off 2 coupon and got 4 lip balms for $2.00 (2.99 each, RIP OFF!).

I was excited to find the two body wash items (Dove and Old Spice) and the toothbrushes in the clearance section because we had dollar off coupons for all three of those as well. Blah blah blah, are you still reading?! Keats found some Nescafe coffee packets (for iced coffee?) and got them for 2 cents...who knows if he will even drink them! The EOS lip balms were also from Walgreens (3.29 there and 2.99 at Target) and I got them for $1.50 each. I know that's a bit spendy for plain ole lip balm, but I love them because they're super moisturizing, smell and taste (yes, taste) great, easy to find in your purse, and they're so darn cute!

We ended up spending $55.80 and we saved $80.27. I know that when I hear of people doing this crazy couponing crap, I think to myself, "Really?! WHYYYY do you need 300 sets of shampoo/conditioner or 27 bottles of lotion?" Keats was asking me the same question and I think that most of the items we bought are things that are necessary for (my) everyday life. Bandaids, toothpaste, shampoo, etc. are justifiable in my book! The cat treats are definitely not necessary for our little porker of a child, but THEY WERE FREE! How can you pass up free stuff (and they don't expire for two whole years ;))?

And yes, if you were wondering, I have also started dreaming about coupons. PA-THE-TIC!

Kasen's 1st Birthday!

Kasen turned 1 on Friday the 30th, so we got to celebrate tonight with a big ole party!

He was shirtless and covered in frosting about 25 minutes later!

He's a walkin' fool now! He was very content pushing and pulling his lawn mower around for a majority of the night.
